QUETTA: Pakistan’s top boxer Muhammad Waseem will compete for the World Gold Bantamweight Title on May 10 at his hometown of Quetta.
The championship will take place at the Polo and Saddle Club in Quetta. This marks the city’s first time hosting an international boxing event.
The event is backed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the Government of Balochistan. DHA Quetta is also supporting the championship.
Waseem will face Venezuela’s Ernesto Ireneo in the main event. The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds. It will be the headline bout of the night.
“I’ve always dreamed of fighting for a world title in my hometown,” said Waseem. “Thanks to DHA Quetta and my team, it’s now happening.”
This match marks Waseem’s return to the international boxing scene after two years. He last fought in Malta against Georgia’s Jaba Memishishi. He is now managed by Manny Pacquiao’s promotional company.
The championship will feature three to four major title fights. Fighters from the U.S., U.K., Ireland, and other countries will also compete. All participants have clearance from the World Boxing Association (WBA).
Waseem’s return has brought global attention to Quetta. The city is ready to host a historic night of boxing.
