ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert warning that a severe cold wave will continue across much of the country in the coming days.
The department said most regions will experience cold and dry weather. Northern and upper areas are expected to face increased cold due to rain and snowfall.
According to the PMD, a new western weather system is affecting the upper parts of the country. The system is likely to bring intermittent rain and snowfall to upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and northern Balochistan. Heavy snowfall in some areas could further intensify the cold.
Snow and Rain Expected on January 28
The PMD forecast rain and snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir on January 28. Light rain is also possible in Islamabad, upper Punjab, and northern Balochistan.
On January 29, most parts of the country are expected to remain cold and dry. Severe cold conditions will persist in mountainous regions.
Another Weather System Expected at Month-End
From January 30 to 31, another western disturbance is likely to affect Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, northern Balochistan, and upper Punjab. Rain is expected in plains, while snowfall is forecast for hilly areas.
Authorities warned that heavy snowfall could lead to road closures and slippery conditions in some locations.
Cold Weather to Continue into Early February
The PMD said cold and dry weather will continue across most parts of the country during the first two days of February. Northern and mountainous areas are expected to remain under a strong cold wave.
In Karachi and most parts of Sindh, dry weather will prevail. However, cooler temperatures and chilly winds are expected during night and early morning hours.
Interior Balochistan may also experience severe cold and fog.
