COLOMBO: Key details about the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup have emerged ahead of the official schedule release on November 25.
The T20 World Cup 2026 will feature 20 teams, divided into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage.
Reports indicate Pakistan and India will be placed in the same group, setting up a high-voltage clash. Their match is likely scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. Netherlands, Namibia, and the USA are also expected in the same group.
Sri Lanka, a co-host, will likely host Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman in another group. England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Italy could form a separate group. A fourth group may include South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada.
The T20 World Cup will run from February 7 to March 8, 2026, across India and Sri Lanka. Indian venues include Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad. Colombo and Kandy will host matches in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will play all its group-stage matches in Sri Lanka. The final is scheduled in Ahmedabad but will move to Colombo if Pakistan qualifies. Semi-finals are proposed in Mumbai and Kolkata, though Pakistan’s participation may shift its match to Sri Lanka.
