Pakistan U-12 tennis team qualifies for quarterfinals in ATF Championship

Pakistan U-12 tennis team has qualified for the quarter-finals by defeating New Zealand 2-1 in the ongoing ATF Under-12 Intercontinental Team Championship in Kazakhstan. Rashid Ali put in a brilliant performance for Pakistan.

Rashid Ali played a prominent role in Pakistan’s victory in the final group match of the ongoing event in Kazakhstan. In the first singles, he defeated New Zealand’s Hadley Erb 1-6, 5-7 to give Pakistan the lead. However, in the second singles, Muhammad Shayan lost to New Zealand’s Lucas Knox 4-6, 4-6, after which the match was tied at 1-1.

 

In the deciding doubles, the pair of Rashid and Shayan displayed a brilliant performance, defeating New Zealand’s Nicks and Erb 1-6 and 3-6 to give Pakistan victory.

 

Pakistan was in Group C along with Korea and New Zealand. Yesterday, Pakistan lost 1-2 to Korea after a tough match. The victory against New Zealand took Pakistan to the quarter-finals of the event where they will face Australia.

Pakistan Tennis Federation President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi congratulated the team and said that Pakistan’s young players have performed brilliantly. They competed strongly even against strong opponents like Korea and it is hoped that they will maintain this performance in the future as well.
