Pakistan shuts Torkham border after Afghan attacks; Conducts retaliatory strikes

KHYBER: Pakistan has closed the Torkham border crossing with Afghanistan for all movement following what officials described as “unprovoked attacks” by Afghan forces on Pakistani border posts.

The closure, which came into effect on Saturday night, indicates an escalation in tensions between the two neighboring countries. The clashes began when Afghan troops opened fire on Pakistani border positions near the multiple border areas.

Furthermore, the military launched retaliatory strikes targeting Afghan border posts and suspected terrorist hideouts across the border.

The strikes, described as “precision operations,” were aimed at preventing further hostilities and protecting Pakistan’s territorial integrity. Moreover, the closure of the Torkham border has halted the movement of people and goods, affecting cross-border trade and the daily flow of travelers.

The tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have risen in recent months amid increasing cross-border attacks and accusations of harboring militants.
