Pakistan, Romania air chiefs agree to boost defence ties

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu met Romanian Air Force Chief Lieutenant General Leonard-Gabriel Baraboi in Bucharest on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and expanding joint initiatives.

The visit focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and expanding collaboration between the two air forces.

Upon arrival at the Romanian Air Force Headquarters, a contingent of the Romanian Air Force presented Air Chief Marshal Sidhu with a Guard of Honour.

During the subsequent meeting, both air chiefs held detailed discussions on enhancing operational cooperation through joint air exercises, exchange programmes, and training opportunities for air and ground crew.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional security developments and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting global and regional stability through closer defence ties.

Lieutenant General Baraboi praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Air Force, citing its demonstrated capabilities during recent regional tensions. He also commended the PAF’s strides in indigenisation under Air Chief Marshal Sidhu’s leadership.

Both sides agreed to establish institutional frameworks for sustained collaboration and to explore defence-industrial partnerships in advanced aerospace technologies.
