ISLAMABABAD: The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Pakistan categorically rejects recent claims by a US official regarding any supposed threat from Pakistan’s missile capabilities.
Reacting to the statement by the US Director of National Intelligence concerning Pakistan’s missile program, Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that Pakistan firmly and unequivocally rejects the assertions made by the American official about any potential threat posed by Pakistan’s missile capabilities.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are purely defensive in nature, aimed solely at safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining peace and stability in South Asia.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan’s missile program — which has a range far below intercontinental levels — remains firmly anchored in the concept of credible minimum deterrence vis-à-vis India.
In contrast, he noted, India’s development of missile capabilities with ranges exceeding 12,000 kilometers reflects a trend that goes beyond regional security requirements and is undoubtedly a cause for concern both within the region and beyond.
Tahir Andrabi stated that Pakistan remains committed to promoting constructive relations with the United States based on mutual respect, non-discrimination, and a fact-based approach.
He stressed the need for a balanced and considered perspective that aligns with the strategic realities of South Asia and contributes to promoting peace, security, and stability across the entire region.
