Pakistan reiterates call for action against terrorists

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has once again demanded action against terrorists operating from Afghanistan.

Speaking at the weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi stated that the terrorist groups active within Pakistan are composed of Afghan nationals.

He added that Pakistan has provided the Afghan regime with all evidence of terrorism and urged them to prevent their territory from being used for terrorist activities.

He expressed hope that the Afghan Taliban would take action against the banned TTP, emphasizing that the presence and safe havens of terrorists in Afghanistan are not a humanitarian issue. Andarabi noted that the Afghan Taliban are attempting to leverage Pashtun identity, whereas the majority of the Pashtun population resides in Pakistan.

He further stated that fatwas have been issued in Afghanistan justifying terrorism, and Pakistan remains committed to eliminating the scourge of terrorism.

According to the spokesperson, a lobby within the Afghan Taliban receives foreign funding to act against Pakistan.

Tahir Andarabi also welcomed Iran’s mediation efforts, expressing confidence that Iran could play a significant role.

He added that Pakistan would also welcome any constructive role by Russia.

Regarding the Afghan border, he said that Pakistani forces are monitoring the ceasefire, but it cannot yet be confirmed whether the ceasefire with the Afghan Taliban is ongoing.

No timeline is currently available for the return of Afghan refugees, and their cases are being addressed in three categories.

It is worth mentioning that the Indian-sponsored militants of Fitna al Khawarij have launched several militant-attacks in KP and Balochistan in the past many years.

All such terror groups are funded, trained and backed by India and have their havens and hideouts in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has stressed on Afghanistan to ensure that the militant groups do not use the Afghan soil to launch attacks on the Pakistani territory.

However, no serious measures have been taken by the Afghan government against the Indian-sponsored militants so far.
