ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the crucial roles of the public, armed forces, and law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism and extremism in Pakistan.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Steering Committee on Counterterrorism and Establishment of State Authority, the Prime Minister reiterated that Pakistan has adopted a comprehensive and multi-dimensional strategy to root out terrorism.
He stated that Pakistan is fully committed to eliminating terrorism, and the global community acknowledges the country’s successful operations against militants.
The strategy includes ground offensives, relevant legislation, meaningful public engagement, and strong efforts to counter extremist ideologies.
The Steering Committee instructed strict implementation of its recommendations and stressed improved coordination between federal and provincial governments in counterterrorism efforts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the bravery and sacrifices of the Pakistani armed forces in this war, calling their dedication commendable.
He expressed national pride in the martyrs and their families who have laid down their lives for the country.
He emphasized that the entire nation, including security forces, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies, stand united in this fight.
He credited major operations like Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad for weakening militant networks and said that Pakistan’s victories in these historic battles have gained international recognition.
He further appreciated the effective actions taken by provincial governments, the Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Interior, and especially the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in tackling terrorism.
Addressing broader security challenges, the Prime Minister said that a comprehensive and practical strategy is being pursued to eliminate subversive elements, including foreign-backed entities such as “Fitna-e-Hindustan” and extremist factions. He also highlighted the success of joint operations against smuggling, which have positively impacted the economy.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that building a peaceful and terror-free state is essential to restoring international investor confidence.
He mentioned significant reforms introduced by the government, such as digitizing governance systems and improving the tax regime.
These steps have led to record growth in the Pakistan Stock Exchange and improved global ratings, signaling economic stability and encouraging foreign investment.
He also confirmed that the repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals is being carried out in accordance with international laws.
