Pakistan Offers to Host Iran-US Talks Amid Rising Tensions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has offered to host talks between Iran and the United States amid rising tensions in the Middle East, a foreign ministry spokesperson said.

Tahir Hussain Andrabi told CNN that Islamabad is ready to facilitate dialogue if both sides agree. He said Pakistan aims to promote peace and prevent any potential conflict in the region.

Andrabi stressed that Pakistan believes even complex disputes should be resolved through diplomacy and meaningful dialogue. He warned that military confrontation could have serious consequences for regional security and the global economy.

He said Pakistan remains in contact with multiple capitals and is working to reduce tensions. He added that Islamabad can play a constructive role in bridging gaps between Tehran and Washington.

Officials said Pakistan’s ties with both Iran and the United States position it as a potential mediator.

Andrabi said Pakistan’s priority is to prevent a new conflict in the region. He added that if both sides respond positively, Islamabad will make arrangements to host talks without delay.

Earlier on Monday, the Financial Times reported that Pakistan is positioning itself as the lead mediator trying to broker an end to the US’s and Israel’s war against Iran.

Pakistani army chief Asim Munir spoke with US President Donald Trump on Sunday, the newspaper reported, citing two people briefed on the call. The Prime Minister Shehbwaz Sharif, while, takled to the Iranian President.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
