Pakistan observes Defence and Martyrs Day to honour heroes of 1965 war

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is being observed Defence and Martyrs Day on Saturday to pay tribute to martyrs and Ghazis and to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to defend the motherland against all threats.

On this day in 1965, Indian forces crossed the international border under the cover of darkness to attack Pakistan. The nation, however, foiled the enemy’s nefarious designs with unity and courage.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. Worshippers offered special prayers in mosques for the country’s progress, prosperity, and the freedom of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir from Indian control. People also held Fateha and Quran Khawani for the martyrs.
