The newly launched submarine, weighing 3,000 tonnes, is fitted with state-of-the-art sensors and modern weapon systems.

It is part of a defence cooperation agreement signed with China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC), under which a total of eight Hangor-class submarines are to be built.

In this sense, the four of these vessels are being constructed in China, and remaining four will be assembled at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd through a transfer of technology programme, marking an important step toward self-reliance in naval defence production.
