Pakistan Fences 21-Sq-Km Border Area Seized from Afghan Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s armed forces have fenced off a 32-square-kilometre area along the Afghan border that was seized last month, security sources said.

Officials said the land was previously under the control of the Afghan Taliban. Troops carried out the operation and established full control over the area.

Authorities have completed border fencing to prevent infiltration and ensure long-term security.

Officials said the move aims to strengthen border management and curb cross-border militant activity.

Last month, in response to unprovoked fire and physical attacks by Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij militants, Pakistani security forces launched a limited tactical action in the general area of Gudwana, occupying 32 square kilometers of Afghan territory.

Last week, Pakistan paused its military operations against Afghanistan during Eid al-Fitr, describing the move as a gesture in line with Islamic values.

During Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, Pakistan has reportedly killed approximately 500 Afghan Taliban and Khawarij militants, destroyed 243 Afghan checkpoints, and seized control of 42 additional positions.

Pakistani forces also destroyed 219 tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery pieces used by militant groups. According to Information Minister Atta Tarar, Pakistan also effectively targeted 65 militant hideouts and support facilities across Afghanistan via airstrikes.
