ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) on Sunday strongly condemned the continued Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip, describing the attacks as a “blatant violation of international law” and a threat to recent peace efforts.
The FO expressed deep concern over Israel’s latest airstrikes, which killed at least 21 people, despite a ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Hamas on October 9.
The FO noted that Israeli forces have continued to conduct regular bombardments, resulting in further civilian casualties.
“Pakistan condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the attacks by Israeli occupying forces across Gaza,” the statement said, adding that the assaults had led to the deaths of several Palestinians and left many others injured.
Furthermore, the FO said the continued violence violated international law, relevant United Nations resolutions, and the peace agreement reached earlier at Sharm el-Sheikh.
It warned that such actions also undermined global diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving long-term stability in the region.
“The Government of Pakistan reiterates its call upon the international community to take immediate steps to end Israeli impunity and ceasefire violations, and to uphold international human rights and humanitarian law,” the statement added.
Moreover, the FO stressed the need for the establishment of “an independent, sovereign, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”
In this sense, Israel’s bombardment of Gaza began on October 7, 2023, and has continued for more than two years. Multiple ceasefire attempts have failed to halt the violence.
As per the Gaza Government Media Office, more than 69,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the conflict.
Pakistan urged world powers and international institutions to play a more active role in safeguarding civilian lives and facilitating sustainable peace in the region.
