UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of the recent “unwarranted attacks” against the Islamic Republic of Iran, warning the Security Council that the military escalation undermines peace and risks a “regional conflagration” with far-reaching consequences.
Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on the situation in the Middle East, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed deep regret that the attacks occurred “right in the middle of negotiations,” effectively derailing renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at a peaceful solution.
“Pakistan condemns the initiation of unwarranted attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in violation of international law,” Ambassador Ahmad stated on Saturday. “Such a course of action will undermine the peace and stability of the entire region.”
In a balanced address reflecting the broad impacts of the crisis, the Pakistani envoy also condemned attacks against several Gulf nations, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. He voiced solidarity with these “brotherly countries” and underscored the necessity for all parties to exercise maximum restraint.
Ambassador Ahmad specifically noted the tragic death of a Pakistani national during the “dastardly attack” on the UAE, offering condolences to the victim’s family. He urged all sides to refrain from further actions that could jeopardize the security and territorial integrity of regional states.
“These unprovoked attacks constitute blatant violations of the sovereignty of the brotherly Gulf states,” he asserted, while also praising Oman’s role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.
The Ambassador emphasized that the principles of the UN Charter, which prohibit the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity of states, are “inviolable and sacrosanct.” He reiterated Pakistan’s call for full respect for International Law and International Humanitarian Law.
Expressing deep alarm at the risk of a wider war, Ambassador Ahmad highlighted that the safety of millions of Pakistani nationals living and working in the region remains a top priority for Islamabad. He confirmed that Pakistan is maintaining close contact with neighboring countries at the leadership level and stands ready to extend support towards a peaceful resolution.
“Diplomacy and dialogue should be the guiding principles for achieving negotiated settlement of all contentious issues,” he concluded, calling on all sides to immediately halt the escalation and urgently resume negotiations
