QUETTA: Pakistan has temporarily closed the Chaman–Spin Boldak border crossing following a series of armed clashes between security forces and Afghan Taliban troops along the frontier.
The Pakistan Army launched a “strong and decisive” response after receiving reports of cross-border firing and infiltration attempts originating from Afghan territory.
The exchange of fire resulted in vital casualties among Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and Afghan border personnel, who were seen retreating from their positions in the Chaman area amid heavy retaliatory strikes.
In this regard, Pakistani forces took control of 19 Afghan border posts in the Angoor Adda sector of South Waziristan, where the national flag was raised early Saturday morning.
The military described the action as “effective and assertive,” involving the use of heavy weaponry and precise tactical maneuvers aimed at neutralizing cross-border threats.
The Angoor Adda region has long been considered one of the most sensitive and volatile points along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border due to its proximity to militant hideouts and its history of cross-border tensions.
The closure of the Chaman–Spin Boldak crossing a key trade and transit route between the two countries is expected to disrupt movement and commerce temporarily.
