Bristles: In Brussels, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held an important meeting with the European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner.
The discussion focused on curbing illegal migration, strengthening actions against human trafficking, and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner noted that attempts to reach Europe illegally from Pakistan have dropped by 47% over the past year, which he described as clear evidence of the Pakistani government’s effective measures. He praised Pakistan for this significant progress and announced that he would soon visit the country.
During the meeting, Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared that 1,770 human traffickers and their agents have been arrested in Pakistan this year, reflecting the government’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal migration.
Both sides agreed to reinforce their collective and coordinated strategy against illegal migration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.
They also committed to improving information-sharing and expanding all possible avenues of cooperation.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan is playing a leading role at the global level in combating human trafficking and drug-related crimes.
He said the nexus between smugglers, drug mafias, and terrorists poses a serious threat to every nation, and countering it requires strong international collaboration.
Both parties reaffirmed their resolve to continue working together in the future to combat illegal migration and human trafficking.
