KABUL: The Afghan Taliban backed social media accounts started propaganda against Pakistan’s yesterday airstrikes in which Pakistan targeted drone assembly facilities and military training centres.
Claim:
The Afghan Taliban claimed that an airstrike targeted a hospital, suggesting civilian casualties at a drug rehabilitation center near Camp Phoenix. A video and social media posts circulated to support this claim.
Fact Check:
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting conducted a verification of the site. Findings show the targeted location was several kilometers from the actual hospital and was, in fact, a militant training facility storing weapons and explosives. Images confirm the hospital is a multi-story building, while the struck site consisted of container structures forming a militant infrastructure. Authorities also noted that placing a rehabilitation center inside a heavily armed camp would be illogical.

Authorities also questioned the Taliban’s claim of targeting a drug rehabilitation center. The satellite images after the Pakistani airstrikes rises questions why containers supposedly housing patients—or potentially coerced suicide bombers—would be located amid ammunition storage.
Investigators noted there was no evidence of a direct strike on the alleged hospital. The fires and damage resulted from secondary explosions after the detonation of stored weapons.
Fact-checks confirmed the actual Omeed Hospital is located miles away from the targeted site, further disproving the Taliban’s narrative.

Further scrutiny revealed that the Taliban’s video post was deleted from an official Afghan government social media account. Officials suggested the video may have been generated using artificial intelligence and could not withstand repeated fact-check verification.
Verdict:
False. The airstrike did not hit a hospital. The Taliban’s claim is misleading, and the targeted location was a legitimate military site used by militants. Attempts to present the attack as targeting civilians have been debunked.
