DOHA: The first round of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan concluded in Doha after more than five hours of discussions. The negotiations were held in the presence of Qatari representatives who facilitated dialogue between the two neighboring countries.
In this regard, both sides presented their respective concerns and complaints during the meeting. Pakistan raised security-related issues, particularly regarding cross-border militant activities.
In this sense, Pakistan focused that banned militant groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, are operating from Afghan soil and carrying out attacks inside Pakistan.
Furthermore, Afghan representatives dismissed the allegations, stating that these groups are not being supported or sponsored by the Afghan Taliban government. They maintained that if any individuals have crossed into Pakistan to fight, they have done so in a personal capacity and not under official instructions.
Afghan representatives said that action has been taken against elements involved in unlawful activities whenever credible evidence has been shared. Afghan government reasserted their dedication to prevent the use of Afghan territory against any neighboring country.
Moreover, Pakistan also raised concern over reports that extortion calls to Pakistani citizens have originated from Afghan territory.
The Afghan side assured Islamabad that such issues would be investigated and addressed in accordance with Afghan law.
