Over 230 killed in Balochistan in the name of honour: NGO Report

QUETTA: One of the recent reports published by a non-governmental organization has revealed a distressing trend of honour-based killings in Balochistan, with over 230 men and women murdered over the past six years. 

The report sheds light on a social issue that continues to claim innocent lives across various districts of the province. As per the report’s findings, a total of 232 people have been killed in Balochistan from 2019 to 2024 in incidents classified as “honour killings”. 

The data shows that this disturbing practice remains prevalent in both rural and urban areas, with women and men targeted under allegations of moral transgressions.

The highest number of honour killings was recorded in Naseerabad, where 73 individuals lost their lives. In Jaffarabad, 23 men and women were reportedly killed over honour-related accusations. 

The report further details that 18 people were killed in Mastung, 17 in Kachhi district, 18 in Jhal Magsi, and 11 in Quetta.

In 2019, a total of 52 people were killed, followed by 51 in 2020, 24 in 2021, 28 in 2022, and 24 in 2023. Meanwhile, alarmingly, in 2024 alone, 33 individuals have already been killed under the pretext of honour.
