Operation Ghazab Lil Haq resumes after Eid pause

ISLAMABAD: Security officials confirmed on Wednesday that Operation Ghazab Lil Haq has resumed after a temporary halt observed during Eidul Fitr and upon requests from several Islamic countries. The pause ended at midnight between March 23 and 24.

Earlier, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had announced the suspension of the operation from midnight March 18/19 until midnight March 23/24, 2026, following requests from friendly nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkiye in consideration of the Eid holidays.

According to security officials, the operation is a continuous and carefully targeted military effort focused on militant leadership, their command structures, logistical systems, and support networks operating in areas under the control of the Afghan Taliban.

Officials stated that Operation Ghazab Lil Haq will continue until its objectives are fully achieved, emphasizing the need for a shift in priorities toward stability and regional peace.

The operation began last month after renewed clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, triggered by cross-border firing from Afghan Taliban forces, which led to a swift response from Pakistan. Since then, tensions between the two countries have increased, with both sides engaging in military actions along the frontier.

The situation intensified further following a border offensive launched by Afghanistan in response to Pakistani air strikes targeting militant positions. These developments followed a series of escalating actions over the past year.

Pakistan previously carried out air strikes against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State Khorasan Province hideouts inside Afghanistan after a wave of attacks within Pakistan, including a suicide bombing in Islamabad.

Tensions also rose after explosions in Kabul on October 9 last year. Subsequent cross-border exchanges caused casualties and damage to infrastructure on both sides, and border crossings were shut on October 12, 2025, leading to the suspension of trade between the two countries.
