Oil and Gas Discovered in Kohat’s Nashpa Block

KOHAT: Oil and gas reserves have been discovered in the Nashpa Block located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to OGDCL, the reserves were found in the Nashpa Block of Kohat, and the company has formally notified the Stock Exchange about the discovery.

OGDCL stated that the well is expected to produce 2,280 barrels of crude oil per day, while the Barghzai X-1 well will supply 5.6 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

The discovery is expected to help bridge the gap between the country’s energy supply and demand.

This is the first time that oil and gas have been discovered in the Kingriali Formation of the Nashpa Block.

OGDCL is the operator of the discovery with a 65% share, while PPL holds a 30% stake and PEL holds 5%.

Over the past two decades, Pakistan’s oil and gas sector has undergone significant shifts shaped by new discoveries, technological advancements, and the growing challenge of meeting rising national energy demands.

Since the early 2000s, exploration efforts have expanded across Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and the offshore areas of the Arabian Sea, resulting in several notable discoveries that strengthened the country’s domestic production capacity.

Sindh remained the backbone of natural gas supply with major contributions from fields in Sui, Qadirpur, Zamzama and Kandhkot, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged as an increasingly important region with successful discoveries in Kohat, Karak and Hangu.

The Nashpa, Makori, and Tal Block areas became especially prominent, producing considerable quantities of crude oil and gas that helped stabilize local refining and power generation.
