North Waziristan: Khawarij Abduct, Torture Journalist for Promoting Young Girl Cricketer’s Talent

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Militants associated with Fitna al Khawarij abducted and tortured local journalist Zafran Wazir for filming 5-year-old girl Aina Wazir playing cricket.

Aina Wazir, from the Shiwa area of North Waziristan, went viral on social media for her cricket skills and received widespread appreciation from people across all walks of life. However, the Khawarij labelled the video as vulgar and abducted Zafran Wazir, torturing him for recording it.

Experts and locals said the militants impose a narrow interpretation of Islam to control society. They restrict women’s and children’s rights, education, sports, and participation in social activities.

“They even target innocent children’s activities to enforce their restrictive views,” a local source said.

Residents called on authorities to take strict and effective action against the militants and remove their harmful influence from the area.

After the video went viral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi reposted it on X, saying:

“It is truly heartening to witness such extraordinary raw talent emerging from our soil, a powerful reminder of the immense potential within our youth. I hope to see Aina Wazir from North Waziristan receive the encouragement, training, and institutional support she deserves so her talent can be fully refined. Our province is brimming with gifted daughters like Aina, whose dreams require recognition and the right platform. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that no talent goes unnoticed and no dream remains unsupported.”
