NOKUNDI: In an intelligence-based operation, Taftan Rifles Headquarters Nokundi has detained 274 Afghan nationals from various areas of the district as part of efforts to maintain law and order and prevent illegal movement.

According to official sources, the detainees include 16 women and 26 children. The process of verifying their legal status and cross-checking details is currently underway.

Security officials stated that after completion of all legal formalities, the detained individuals will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.

The operation was conducted to establish law and order in the region, prevent illegal settlement, and tighten surveillance along the Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran borders. Officials added that border security has been further strengthened, with close monitoring of all suspicious movements in the area.

Meanwhile the United Nations Security Council has voiced serious concern regarding Afghanistan’s support for terrorist groups.

According to the Security Council report, there has been a significant increase in extremist attacks inside Pakistan carried out by terrorist groups operating under Afghanistan’s patronage.

The report highlights that attacks by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist groups based in Afghanistan have risen to alarming levels in Pakistan.

It further states that the international community has unequivocally rejected Afghanistan’s backing of terrorist groups.

The report also notes that Pakistan has taken effective action, successfully eliminating a key deputy commander of the TTP.
