QUETTA: In a powerful address at a Grand Jirga in Loralai, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards poppy cultivation and terrorism. He announced stringent measures, stating that individuals involved in poppy farming will be placed on the Fourth Schedule and have their lands confiscated.
The Jirga, convened at the Loralai Cantonment, was a significant gathering aimed at bridging the gap between the government and the public. It was attended by a high-level delegation including Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Corps Commander Rahat Saleem, senior military officials, and provincial bureaucrats. They were joined by a large number of tribal elders, women, students, and citizens.
Participants actively voiced their concerns, submitting written applications on pressing issues such as law and order, electricity and clean water shortages, deteriorating road infrastructure, and challenges in the health and education sectors.
In a joint address, Chief Minister Bugti, Corps Commander Rahat Saleem, and the Governor emphasized that the purpose of the Jirga was to directly assess public grievances and work on sustainable solutions. Bugti assured the assembly that issues within the district administration’s mandate would be resolved immediately, while others would be escalated to higher forums.
Declaring that negligence in public service would not be tolerated, the Chief Minister encouraged citizens to approach the government at any time, not just during such gatherings. He highlighted the importance of tribal cooperation for peace and development, stating, “We are united, and God willing, we will defeat the enemy together.” This was the government’s seventh Grand Jirga, with the next one planned for the Nasirabad Division.
Meanwhile the sources of Pakistan People’s Party have turned down the claims of the removal of Sarfaraz Bugti from the CM ship of Balochistan.
While talking exclusively to Burak Digital , the sources of Pakistan People’s Party remarked on the statement given by PML-N’s senator to Sama TV that this could be Mir Dostain’s personnel opinion.
There is no debate on this inside the party. Dostain’s comment does not reflect the strategy or the opinion of Pakistan People’s party.
