ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Thursday it will not compromise on its water rights and will continue legal action against India at the International Court of Arbitration.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi said India has failed to appear in the proceedings. He stressed that the Indus Waters Treaty is a binding international agreement.
Andarabi condemned killings and atrocities against Muslims and Christians in India, reportedly carried out by mobs under state protection. He said a United Nations report validated Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan and terrorist groups. Pakistan continues to coordinate with the UN on counterterrorism efforts.
On the Gaza Peace Board meeting, Andarabi said Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will attend. He said voices of eight Muslim countries will be heard. Pakistan supports an independent Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders.
He added that Pakistan has shot down several Indian Rafale jets and will respond firmly to any future aggression. Islamabad is raising the recent ISIS attack at the international level. The mastermind is reportedly in Afghanistan.
On cricket, Andarabi said politicising sports is wrong. Pakistan will play matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in line with sporting principles.
