Islamabad: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has approved the appointments of the new Chief Justices for the Sindh and Balochistan High Courts.
The important meeting of the Judicial Commission, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan and Commission Chairman Justice Yahya Afridi, was held to discuss key appointments in the higher judiciary.
According to sources, the first agenda of the meeting was the appointment of the new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.
After reviewing the names of three senior judges and detailed deliberation, the commission approved Justice Zafar Rajput as the new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.
The meeting then addressed the appointment of the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court.
The commission considered three senior judges,Justice Kamran Khan Malakhel, Justice Iqbal Ahmed Kansi, and Justice Shaukat Ali Derakhshani and approved Justice Kamran Khan Malakhel for the position.
In addition, the Judicial Commission discussed the appointment of a permanent judge to the Supreme Court, approving the name of Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb, a senior judge of the Islamabad High Court.
As per the Constitution, appointments in the higher judiciary require recommendations from the Judicial Commission and confirmation by the Parliamentary Committee.
The recommendations for the new Chief Justices of the Sindh and Balochistan High Courts, as well as the new permanent judge of the Supreme Court, will now be sent to the President of Pakistan, after which formal notifications will be issued.
