NDMA: Rain-related incidents kill 785 across Pakistan in two months

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has confirmed that 785 people were killed in rain-related incidents across Pakistan in two months.

According to NDMA latest report about the damages in the recent monsoon rain and floods across Pakistan, between 26 June and 22 August, at least 785 people lost their lives while 1,011 sustained injuries.

NDMA report highlights that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered the most fatalities and damage during this period.

Report revealed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 469 deaths and 280 injuries, placing the province at the top of the casualty list. Punjab followed with 165 deaths and 584 injured, while Sindh reported 51 deaths and 69 injured. Balochistan witnessed 24 fatalities and five injuries, and the federal capital, Islamabad, reported eight deaths alongside three injuries.

The report further stated that Gilgit-Baltistan lost 45 people with 42 injured, while Azad Jammu and Kashmir recorded 23 deaths and 28 injured. Beyond human losses, widespread damage has been reported to infrastructure and property, severely impacting communities in rural and urban areas alike.

NDMA report revealed that so far, 4,735 houses have been damaged or destroyed, while floods have swept away around 5,450 livestock. The NDMA continues to monitor the evolving situation as the monsoon season progresses, with many areas still at risk of further flooding.
