NDMA: Heavy monsoon rains claim 55 lives nationwide in 24 Hours

ISLAMABAD: As many as 55 people were killed due to heavy monsoon rains and flooding across the country in the last 24 hours.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that 227 people were also injured due to monsoon rains across the country.

According to NDMA, since June 26, 178 people have died across the country, including 85 children, while 491 people have been injured during this time.

Most of the deaths were due to house collapse, flooding and electrocution.

Meanwhile, the torrential rains that have been falling since last night in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have caused havoc. Alarms have been sounded due to the high water level in Nala Lai and instructions have been issued to the nearby population to move to a safer place.

According to reports, more than 250 mm of rain has been recorded in the twin cities since last night, due to which low-lying areas in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been submerged.
