NCCIA Raid in Karachi Nabs Suspect in Online Gambling Fraud

KARACHI:In a targeted operation conducted on Thursday evening, officials from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) apprehended a primary suspect alleged to be at the center of an online financial fraud and gambling network. The arrest was made in the PECHS area of Karachi .

The accused, identified as Sagar Kumar, was arrested red-handed from his residence in a flat on Khalid Bin Waleed Road. The raid, which took place at approximately 8:30 PM, was initiated based on a tip-off regarding the whereabouts of another absconding suspect, Aamir Allu. However, officials reported that Allu had fled the location prior to the operation .

According to an NCCIA spokesperson, Sagar Kumar is accused of managing gambling websites and operating administrator accounts for illicit online gambling activities through cyberspace. A case has been registered against him under Sections 13 and 14 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Act 2025 (FIR No. 107/25). These sections pertain to unauthorized use of identity information and electronic forgery, which are serious cybercrimes .

During the raid, investigators recovered **three mobile phones, a computer, and a register from the suspect’s possession. The register is reported to contain detailed entries of numerous fraudulent transactions. Authorities stated that the recovered evidence substantiates his involvement in the scheme. During preliminary interrogation, Sagar Kumar confessed to his role in the online fraud and also named other individuals, including Sushi Kumar, Salman, and Zafar, as accomplices .

“The accused was actively involved in activities that pose a threat to national cybersecurity and exploit citizens,” an official stated, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to tackling such crimes. A senior investigation officer has been assigned to the case to uncover the full extent of the network and pursue further arrests .
