National Party slams 27th Constitutional Amendment

The National Party has strongly criticised the government's decision to integrate the Mastung Levies Force into the police, calling the move a damaging attack on the region's social and tribal fabric.

QUETTA: The central spokesperson of the Balochistan National Party has stated that after the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment was tabled in the Senate of Pakistan and made public, the party held detailed consultations with its legal experts and deliberated on the matter at its relevant forums.

The spokesperson said the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment is, in fact, tantamount to weakening the very spirit and structure of the Constitution. Therefore, the party’s constitutional bodies have, by a majority decision, rejected the amendment.

The National Party has announced that it will oppose this constitutional amendment.

The opposition alliance declared the launch of a nationwide movement opposing the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, terming it a threat to the spirit of the Constitution and the country’s democratic structure.

Furthermore, the prominent opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas made the announcement at a joint press conference, vowing to mobilize people across the country to resist what they described as an attempt to weaken the federation and erode constitutional protections.

In this regard, Mahmood Khan Achakzai focused on that the Constitution represents a “civil contract between the state and its citizens,” binding all institutions to uphold democratic norms. “I have taken oath five times to protect the Constitution,” he said. “No one seems to recognize the people anymore, so we are going to them.
