Naqvi cites Quran, vows action against those taking up arms against state

LAHORE : Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a stern warning on Sunday against anti-state violence, citing religious and legal grounds, during a visit to Jamia Ashrafia Lahore. He and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar were present to offer condolences on the passing of renowned religious scholar Maulana Fazlur Rahim.

Speaking to the media, Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized the state’s duty to enforce law and order. “There is a clear instruction in the Holy Quran for those who take up arms against the state,” he stated, adding that “necessary action will be taken against those who take such steps.” His remarks were seen as a clear message amidst ongoing political tensions.

Naqvi asserted the government’s readiness to handle protests, noting there was “experience in dealing with protesters” and that “appropriate action will be taken” if necessary. He also shifted focus to provincial governance, questioning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister about his performance in protecting government officers in the province.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar briefly commented on the economy, stating it is “moving towards improvement.” He also made a pointed, cryptic remark about a rival political group, calling them “the people of the Tanga” and choosing not to elaborate further.

The ministers’ visit combined a somber condolence gesture with firm political statements, underscoring the government’s current focus on asserting state authority and challenging political opponents on governance and security issues
