NA committee urges minimum wage compliance

Islamabad: National Assembly Standing Committee directs all government institutions to ensure payment of minimum monthly wages to employees

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly, chaired by Chairperson Nuzhat Sadiq, held a meeting to review the implementation of minimum monthly wage payments across various government departments and institutions.

MPA Agha Rafiullah highlighted that several institutions are failing to pay the legally prescribed minimum wages to their employees.

MNA Natasha Dolatana pointed out that security guards performing duties in government institutions are not being paid the government-notified salary.

Agha Rafiullah further proposed that the minimum monthly salary for security guards should be raised to Rs50,000.

He raised the issue of security guards’ wages directly with the Secretary Interior.

The committee chairperson emphasized that strict compliance with minimum wage payment must be ensured in all institutions.

The committee formally recommended that every government department and organization must guarantee the payment of the minimum monthly wage to all employees.

The meeting also discussed the issue of inflated prices of essential commodities at service areas and rest stops along national highways.

National Highway Authority (NHA) officials informed the committee that continuous monitoring of prices is underway, and contracts of 16 service and rest areas have already been suspended due to violations.

The Standing Committee directed the NHA to conduct additional price audits through third-party independent entities to ensure fair pricing for travelers.
