Multan Commissioner clarifies flood protection measures at Shershah

MULTAN: Commissioner Multan Division, Irfan Ali Kathia, said that a breach in the Shershah flood bank would only be carried out if water levels reached the critical point of 394 gauge.

He assured the public that the decision would not be taken unilaterally but would follow due consultation with the Breaching Committee.

In this sense, the Commissioner stressed that, for the time being, there was no need to create an artificial cut in the flood protection dyke.

The district administration has already placed all precautionary measures in position to deal with any possible emergency.

Furthermore, the administration has also issued a warning to residents of low-lying areas near Shershah. In order to provide the safety protocols, the citizens have been advised to shift to safer places ahead of time in order to avoid any last-minute risk to life and property.

In addition, Commissioner Kathia focused on the fact that protecting human lives remained the foremost priority of the government and all arrangements were being continuously reviewed.

Moreover, the officials from the district administration confirmed that equipment, boats, and medical facilities had been pre-positioned in sensitive zones.

The Punjab government has reasserted its commitment to extending all possible assistance to the Multan administration in its flood management efforts.

Meanwhile, the floodwaters in the region posing a potential challenge, officials have called on the public to remain vigilant but avoid unnecessary panic.
