Quetta: The moon marking the beginning of Muharram has been sighted, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee officially announced.
The committee’s meeting was held in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir.
The 1st of Muharram is tomorrow, while the Day of Ashura is on July 10.
Based on testimonies received from zonal committees across the country, the committee declared the sighting of the Muharram moon.
Separate meetings of zonal and district moon-sighting committees were also held at their respective headquarters.
In Karachi, a meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee took place at the Meteorological Department office, presided over by Hafiz Muhammad Salfi.
Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Lagari and other committee members were also present.
Similarly, a meeting of the zonal committee was held in Peshawar. Earlier, SUPARCO had already predicted that the moon would be visible in Quetta due to clear skies.

The visibility duration of the moon in Quetta was approximately 35 minutes. The crescent was also sighted in other cities including Gwadar, Pasni, and Jiwani.
