Member of the Balochistan Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary for Minority Affairs, Sanjay Kumar Panjwani, was robbed at gunpoint by a large gang of bandits in Nasirabad

QUETTA: Member of the Balochistan Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary for Minority Affairs, Sanjay Kumar Panjwani, was robbed at gunpoint by a large gang of bandits in Nasirabad district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred within the limits of the Nutal police station. According to Panjwani, he and his associates were returning from a visit to meet members of the minority community and participate in religious rituals when they were ambushed. Approximately one to two kilometers from Nutal, their vehicle was stopped by armed men who had pre-positioned a wagon and a car on the roadside.

“The robbers surrounded the car and demanded the goods at gunpoint,” Panjwani stated. His personal security guards attempted to resist, leading to a scuffle with the assailants. Fearing a major exchange of fire and potential loss of life, the MPA instructed his guards to stand down. The gang, which he estimated numbered between 12 to 15 individuals, proceeded to loot mobile phones and other valuables from the occupants.

The confrontation escalated briefly into an exchange of fire between the robbers and the security personnel before the bandits fled the scene. Local police have launched an investigation into the brazen daylight robbery targeting a senior provincial lawmaker. The incident has raised serious concerns about the security situation on highways in the area, particularly for public officials. No injuries were reported in the exchange. Authorities are searching for the perpetrators, who managed to escape following the armed robbery.
