Monsoon rains lash Balochistan; six dead as more Downpours

QUETTA:  There are heavy monsoon rains have continued to saturate various districts of Balochistan, triggering flash floods and lightning strikes that have claimed at least six lives in separate incidents.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) have warned of further downpours until July 8, urging residents to exercise caution.

In this regard, as per the verified and official sources released by PMDA, recent rainfall has caused widespread disruption in Barkhan, Kohlu, and Khuzdar, where monsoon showers have turned dry lands into water-logged areas.

Furthermore, the second spell of the monsoon season formally began today across Balochistan. The PMD has forecast rainfall in at least 20 districts, including Quetta, Zhob, Dera Bugti, Lasbela, and Kalat, from July 4 to 8. The department has further cautioned that the persistent rain may result in urban flooding and a dangerous rise in water levels in seasonal streams and nullahs.

Moreover, tragic incidents related to the rain have already claimed six lives, as flash floods swept away individuals in vulnerable regions, while lightning strikes were reported in remote mountainous zones.

In this regard, officials from the PDMA have urged residents in low-lying and mountainous areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during the next few days.

Balochistan, often affected by climate extremes, is once again bracing for potential challenges brought by monsoon activity.
