Monsoon havoc in Balochistan: 16 lives lost amid climate-driven disaster

QUETTA: Balochistan, during the ongoing monsoon spell this July, 16 people have lost their lives, as torrential rains triggered flash floods, landslides, and widespread destruction in multiple districts. 

In this regard, according to data released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the fatalities occurred in districts including Quetta, Zhob, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, and Lasbela.

Most of the deaths were reported due to roof collapses, electrocution, and drowning, while dozens have been injured and hundreds displaced from their homes.

The PDMA has urged citizens to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and report any emergencies through helpline numbers. In addition, forecasts indicate more rain in the coming days, particularly in the northern and central parts of the province.

Meanwhile, Balochistan mourns the loss of lives and struggles with the aftermath of yet another natural calamity, the real climate change, the monsoon crisis has once again highlighted the urgent need for preparedness, infrastructure development, and stronger climate resilience mechanisms in Pakistan’s most vulnerable regions.
