PESHAWAR: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said Monday that their protest alone will not secure the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking to a private TV channel, he praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying no one had worked harder than him for Khan’s release. Naqvi spoke openly to powerful circles on Khan’s behalf, Gandapur added.
Gandapur stressed that reconciliation is a principle of Islam and the key to national progress. He said that everyone shares responsibility if Khan remains behind bars. “The vision he followed could have taken the country far ahead,” he said.
He criticised his party PTI, calling it completely failed, with internal conflicts and malicious actors. “No one in the party currently has the authority to make decisions. Members keep blaming each other,” he said.
Gandapur recalled Khan’s demand to come to Islamabad to block the 26th amendment. “When we arrived, the system’s foundations shook. Authorities were ready to negotiate,” he said.
He added that Khan had asked them to stay in Sangjani, but Bushra Bibi refused. Now, their pressure is minimal, yet they continue to hold sit-ins to highlight Khan’s health.
Gandapur also questioned claims about Khan’s health. He said people visiting him often spread strange stories. On October 5, he said, only a handful of supporters were in Islamabad, while Khan was told 150,000 were present.

He added: “We do not fully trust the reports about his health. The real question is why we are not being allowed to meet him. We pray that the reports reflect his true condition.”
