Mohammad Waseem retains WBA Gold Bantamweight Title at International Championship in Lahore

LAHORE: Pakistani boxer Mohammad Waseem successfully defended his WBA Gold Bantamweight title after defeating a Thai opponent in a highly competitive bout at the International Boxing Championship held in Lahore.

In this regard, Waseem delivered an impressive performance across all twelve rounds, maintaining control of the fight and showcasing his skill, stamina and strategic precision. 

Waseem dedicated his win to the martyrs of the Pakistan Army, expressing deep respect for their sacrifices. He said the title was not only a personal achievement but also an honour for Pakistan. 

“This victory belongs to my nation. I am grateful for the support of the people of Pakistan and proud to raise the country’s flag once again,” he remarked.

The championship, titled Fight for Glory, concluded today and marked a significant milestone for the sport in Pakistan. This was the first time the event was hosted in the country, drawing considerable attention from boxing fans and sports authorities alike. 

Organisers mentioned that the successful execution of the championship reflects Pakistan’s growing capacity to host international sporting events.

Moreover, a total of 44 boxers from 15 countries participated in the tournament, contributing to its competitive spirit and international appeal. Officials noted that the event provided a valuable platform for local athletes to compete at a global level and for international fighters to experience Pakistan’s sports environment.
