QUETTA: The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan Mohammad Tahir assumed charge of his office on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
Tahir previously served as Additional IGP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is widely regarded as a seasoned officer within the police service.
Authorities and security observers said his appointment has raised expectations for improved law and order in Balochistan, along with reforms in the provincial police force.
On Monday, the Establishment Division issued a notification saying Muhammad Tahir, a grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, was previously serving in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province before being assigned to his new role in Balochistan.
He was appointed as new IGP Balochistan after the retirment of the Moazzam Jah Ansari, who retired on August 4, 2025.
The sources said that the appointment came as part of routine administrative changes and was seen as an important development for the province, where the police force continued to face significant challenges in maintaining law and order.
It is worth mentioning that this is a crucial move keeping in view the ongoing the law-and-order and the internal security situation in Balochistan.
