ICC Fines Mohammad Nabi for breaching code of conduct

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on Afghan cricketer Mohammad Nabi.

According to an official ICC statement, Mohammad Nabi has been fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup Group D match against South Africa on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the start of the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Nabi engaged in a prolonged argument with the umpires over a wristband worn by South African bowler Lungi Ngidi.

Nabi was found to have breached Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Disobeying an Umpire’s instruction during an International Match.”

In addition, one demerit point has been added to Mohammad Nabi’s disciplinary record.

According to the ICC, Nabi admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the match referee, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

It is worth noting that on Wednesday, Afghanistan suffered a heartbreaking defeat against South Africa in the Men’s T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, losing in a dramatic double Super Over thriller.
