QUETTA: Mobile data services in Quetta will remain suspended for an additional two days as authorities cite ongoing security concerns and the city’s fragile law and order situation.
The decision follows a notification issued by the Balochistan Home Department extending the suspension first imposed earlier this month. The measure is part of a series of steps taken to maintain public safety in the provincial capital.
The notification stated that the extension was deemed necessary after reviewing intelligence reports and assessing the city’s current security landscape.
Furthermore, the suspension has, however, significantly affected daily life in Quetta. Residents expressed frustration over the continued unavailability of mobile data, saying the restriction has disrupted routine communication and limited access to essential online services.
Many citizens rely heavily on mobile internet for work, education, banking, and transportation-related applications. Moreover, local businesses have also reported difficulties, particularly those dependent on digital transactions and online customer engagement.
In addition, shopkeepers, freelancers, and service providers said the suspension has slowed their operations and reduced customer interaction.
Despite public inconvenience, officials stress that the decision is temporary and driven solely by security considerations. They have assured that services will be restored as soon as the situation allows.
The Home Department is expected to review the situation again at the end of the two-day extension before making a final decision on the resumption of mobile data services.
