WEB DESK: The deep and dangerous nexus between the Afghan Taliban regime and militant groups operating against Pakistan has been exposed, with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) faction announcing they will initiate terrorist attacks across Pakistan in support of their ideological allies.
According to separate statements issued by the militant groups, TTP ringleader Noor Wali Mehsud and JuA commanders have instructed their members to launch attacks throughout Pakistan. The directives come as Pakistan’s Operation Ghazab Lil Haq continues to inflict heavy losses on Taliban military infrastructure across multiple Afghan provinces.
The development confirms long-standing Pakistani concerns about the operational collaboration between the Afghan Taliban regime and anti-Pakistan militant groups operating from Afghan soil. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has previously stated that Afghanistan’s actions exposed a “clear nexus between the Taliban regime and terrorist groups” .
Security analysts note that the TTP and its splinter groups have long enjoyed sanctuary in Afghanistan. A United Nations Security Council report recently confirmed that the TTP “operates as one of the largest terrorist groups in Afghanistan” and enjoys “greater liberty and support from the de facto authorities” there . The report also warned that TTP attacks against Pakistan have increased significantly, amplifying regional tensions .
The Jamaat-ul-Ahrar faction, which emerged as a TTP breakaway group in 2014 , has been responsible for some of the deadliest attacks in Pakistan, including the November 2025 suicide bombing outside an Islamabad courthouse that killed 12 people . The group has consistently targeted civilians, religious minorities, and state infrastructure .
TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud, who is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan , has previously directed operatives to target government buildings, schools, and security personnel . His recent call for attacks aligns with the TTP’s stated goal of overthrowing the Pakistani state and imposing a strict religious order .
The exposure of this nexus comes as Pakistan’s armed forces continue Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, which has so far resulted in 133 Taliban operatives killed and over 200 injured. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has declared that Pakistan’s patience has reached its limit and that the country is now engaged in “open confrontation” with elements threatening its security.
The statements from TTP and JuA, posted for information purposes, further substantiate Pakistan’s claims regarding the deep operational ties between the Afghan Taliban regime and terrorist groups targeting Pakistan .
