MIRPUR: An activist, Ehsan Shabbir Shani, son of Mirza Shabbir and a resident of Mirpur, has announced that he is no longer associated with the Awami Action Committee.
In a video statement, he said he had remained an active member of the group in the past. However, he decided to quit after recent developments and alleged violent activities linked to the organisation.
He said the current leadership was taking the group in a direction he did not support. He added that he could no longer remain part of it.
He also submitted a written affidavit confirming his resignation from the organisation.
Separately, Tauseef Jarral, a former core committee member of the banned Awami Action Committee, surrendered to police in Bhimber.
Jarral said he could no longer remain part of the movement after the organisation was declared banned. He said its activities had drifted away from its original objectives.
He said he had joined the movement for public welfare and human rights. However, he now believed the leadership was pursuing a different agenda.
He added that he did not want to be part of any organisation that could cause unrest or harm to public interests.
Officials said Jarral is currently in Bhimber jail, while further legal proceedings are underway.
