Mehmood Achakzai sparks controversy with remarks on TTP:

ISLAMABAD: The senior politician Mehmood Khan Achakzai has stirred a major controversy after reportedly stating that Pakistan “should not fight the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as they are our own people.”

The statement has triggered widespread criticism, with many political analysts describing it as deeply insensitive to the victims of terrorism and a serious challenge to the state’s anti-terrorism stance.

Furthermore, Achakzai, the chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), has long been a polarizing figure in Pakistani politics. He is known for his outspoken views on Afghan-Pakistan relations, he has often described himself as “Afghan first.”

In this regard, the political observers note that Achakzai’s recent comments have crossed a new line, openly appearing to endorse a group responsible for years of deadly attacks against Pakistani civilians and security forces.

The TTP has claimed responsibility for numerous bombings and assaults that have killed tens of thousands of people across the country.

Moreover, reports suggest that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently imprisoned, has nominated Achakzai for the position of Leader of the Opposition.

Meanwhile, Achakzai’s daughter, social media activist Thaterra Achakzai, has also come under criticism for her online statements.
