Hidayat ur Rehman warns of a larger protest in future

ISLAMABAD: Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, addressed a press conference at Quetta Press Club, expressing grave concern over the persistent problems facing Balochistan.

He said it was his moral and political responsibility to highlight the region’s issues.

“During our long march, we endured immense hardship, but it was a duty we owed to the mothers of Balochistan,” he stated.

He revealed that their caravan was stopped in Lahore during the march, adding that instead of addressing Balochistan’s legitimate concerns, some influential elements have continued to defend the powerful.

“Now, no one is willing to even engage in consultation,” Maulana said, questioning the effectiveness of provincial assembly resolutions and parliamentary queries.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman claimed the government had earlier agreed to implement an 8-point agenda, and discussions were held with parties like Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s and others.

“I did my duty as a political worker by bringing Balochistan’s issues to light.

If the agreed points are not implemented, it is the government that fails, not me,” he remarked.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader reiterated key demands: ending military interference in Balochistan, the withdrawal of FC (Frontier Corps), recovery of missing persons, release of political prisoners, and an end to political victimization.

He strongly criticized the federal government’s handling of the CPEC project.

“What did Balochistan gain from CPEC? Where is Phase 1? Where is Phase 2?” he asked, further questioning how Gwadar Port could operate effectively when basic necessities like water are still not provided to the local population.

Maulana claimed that the writ of the government only exists for four hours a day in Balochistan — a statement, he noted, that no government official has yet denied.

He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami will monitor the situation for the next six months. “If there is no meaningful progress, we will launch a protest in front of GHQ,” he warned, confirming that a sit-in at GHQ is being seriously planned.
