ISLAMABAD: In a bold solo move, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat has announced a one-man protest demanding the release of imprisoned party founder, former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The announcement was made by Marwat in a post on social media platform X. He declared his intention to “take to the field alone” for the cause, vowing to raise his voice through peaceful demonstration. The protest underscores the ongoing political tension surrounding Khan’s incarceration, which his supporters decry as politically motivated.
Speaking to the media, Marwat adopted a defiant stance against potential obstruction. “What right does the police have to block my path?” he questioned. He asserted his commitment to non-violence but pledged he would “neither bow down to oppression nor remain silent.” The lawmaker emphasized his readiness to stand up for his constitutional right to protest if confronted with barriers.
Beyond the immediate demand for release, Marwat framed his protest as a public awareness campaign. He stated that during the demonstration, he would explain to the people “why Imran Khan is necessary for true freedom and why his release is indispensable for the future of the country.” This rhetoric positions Khan’s freedom as central to a broader national narrative of liberty and democratic integrity.
The planned solo action highlights the PTI’s continued strategy of applying public pressure for Khan’s release, even as the party faces a significant crackdown. It also tests the boundaries of permissible dissent, setting up a potential confrontation between a lone parliamentarian’s constitutional rights and state authority. The protest is being closely watched as a gauge of both the government’s tolerance for opposition activity and the sustained fervor of Khan’s support base.
