Malakand Division Law and Order Handed to KP Police and CTD

PESHAWAR : In a significant development, the responsibilities for law and order in the Malakand division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be formally handed over to the KP Police, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and provincial law enforcement agencies. This decision was finalized during a high-level security meeting convened at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar.

The meeting, chaired by Corps Commander Peshawar, was attended by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. Sources indicate that the military and political leadership reached a consensus to move in unison in the ongoing war against terrorism, underscoring a coordinated approach.

Following the deliberations, KP Law Minister Aftab Alam announced that pivotal decisions regarding provincial security were made. He emphasized mutual cooperation and confirmed that the decisions of the provincial apex committee would be presented for ratification before the National Apex Committee, with political parties and tribal elders being taken into confidence.

Provincial officials also highlighted economic discussions. KP Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam detailed talks on the province’s financial strains, particularly for merged districts, urging the release of its rightful NFC share to resolve major issues. He stated that the federation and province would jointly address financial losses in affected areas.

KP Information Advisor Shafi Jan confirmed the comprehensive nature of the decisions, adding that civilian administration would resume full control in areas as soon as security improves, marking a structured transition towards normalized governance.
