QUETTA: The security forces have carried out a major counterterrorism operation, arresting a key commander of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) during a cross-border action.
The apprehended militant, identified as “Behroz,” was a senior commander of the BLA’s “Behram” group.
He was allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities, including dozens of attacks, ambushes, and improvised explosive device (IED) explosions targeting security personnel and civilians in different parts of Balochistan.
In this regard, the government representatives said Behroz was taken into custody following an intelligence-based operation near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The operation, conducted in coordination with various security and intelligence agencies, aimed to dismantle the militant networks operating across the border and targeting the stability of the province.
In this sense, security agencies initiated a detailed investigation to uncover the extent of his involvement and gather intelligence on his associates and financiers.
So far, the security forces launched a follow-up operation based on intelligence gathered from the interrogation.
During the encounter, Behroz was killed after reportedly resisting arrest and attempting to flee. The authorities have not disclosed the exact location of the operation due to security reasons.
The security institutions reasserted their commitment to eradicating terrorism from the region, focusing on that such operations would continue until the complete dismantling of militant networks across Balochistan.
On the other hand, the BLA is actively operating in Balochistan where they martyred the journalist’s family in Zehri over the “social media post.”
The Baloch Liberation Army, designated as a terrorist organization by Pakistan, has been involved in a series of violent attacks over the past several years, targeting both security forces and infrastructure projects.
